At the House of Cherith, I have learned a lot, even about myself, because of the peace I experience here. I learned that it’s normal to be independent at 25 years old; I can still love my family while being aware of what was done wrong, and that when you are ready for a change, you slowly make the steps towards it.”

What was life like for you before House of Cherith?

Before the House of Cherith, I was lost and did not have goals, plans, or even an idea on where to start to get back on my feet after incarceration. For the last 5 years, I was in and out of jail, repeating a cycle of confusion and conflicts. I was starting things and not finishing them, and I wasn't getting any counseling from a trustworthy person. I also never had a routine before coming here.

What have you been learning while at House of Cherith?

At the House of Cherith, I have learned a lot, even about myself, because of the peace I experience here. I learned that it’s normal to be independent at 25 years old; I can still love my family while being aware of what was done wrong, and that when you are ready for a change, you slowly make the steps towards it. I learned that routines are also important.

What are your goals and hopes for the future?

My goals for the future involve me at City of Refuge giving back and serving where I am needed. My goals will be to stay employed and knowing what it means to work hard for what I need and want. I plan to carry out God’s purpose which I believe is to guide teenagers and relate to them while explaining how I overcame challenges. I plan on going to church continuously too!
