Q2 2026 Newsletter
A Message From Lori Schmidt
As we reflect on the second quarter of 2026, I am overwhelmed with gratitude as I look back on one of the most exciting milestones of the year, the opening of our brand-new Recovery Room at House of Cherith.
What was once a dream and a vision has now become a reality. This multi-functionalspace was intentionally designed to support the healing journeys of the women we serve through psychoeducation, mindfulness, meditation, group therapy, peer support, and artistic expression. More than just a room, it has become a place where healing happens and recovery comes to life!
As the Addiction Recovery Specialist at House of Cherith, it has been a privilege to witness the impact this space is already having on our residents. Recovery is best experienced in community, and the atmosphere of the Recovery Room creates opportunities for women to be vulnerable while also feeling supported and encouraged by others who understand their experiences. Day after day, I have watched women show up with authenticity and ready to do the work that is needed to live a life free of substance.
This room has already seen laughter, healing, breakthroughs, and yes, a few tears. It has become a safe space where women can process their past struggles, learn new coping skills, and discover that they are not walking this journey alone. Through 12-Step integration, mindfulness practices, artistic expression, journaling, peer support, and evidence-based recovery tools, residents are learning how to move beyond survival mode and begin thriving.
One of the most powerful aspects of recovery is connection. When women feel safe enough to share their stories, they often realize that their experiences do not define them and that healing is possible. In those moments, we see lives being reclaimed, dreams being renewed, and hope being rekindled through recovery.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our supporters, volunteers, staff, and community partners who believe in the mission of House of Cherith. Thank you for helping create spaces where women can heal, grow, and build a foundation for lasting freedom.
As we look ahead to the second half of 2026, we remain hopeful and expectant for all that is still to come. Together, we are creating a place where survivors can walk in dignity and experience the fullness of life through recovery.

Resident Wins
Every step forward is worth celebrating. This quarter, our residents have been moving, working, learning, and stepping into the futures they've been working so hard to build. We are so proud of each of these women!
"Every win, big or small, is proof that restoration is possible and that every woman's story is still being written."

Story of Hope
“Before coming to HOC, my life had no direction. I did not take any time for myself, and I was running from hurt and unkindness. I was running from myself. Hurt kept leading to hurt, and I was settling into the idea that this was my life.
A lot of the hurt stemmed from my childhood, and I could not do anything about it. I brought the hurt alive and allowed it to grow and be a part of who I was and how my mind processed life around me. I was constantly running from one place to another, just trying to escape from more pain.
While growing up, I was met with confusion, diversity issues, brokenness, physical, mental, and sexual abuse, teen pregnancy, and violence. When I came to the House of Cherith, I was met with love. I found love through others and through Jesus. I thank Jesus for bringing me here.
I have stopped running, and I have a plan and hopes for the future. I am learning to surrender myself and to heal from the hurt that was spoken into me. After I graduate, I want to give hope back to others. I want to forgive those who hurt me, and I want to continue to heal. The rest of my life is given to Jesus.
