A Message From Our Addiction Recovery Specialist

In January 2025, I began a new chapter as the first Addiction Recovery Specialist at House of Cherith. Stepping into this role has been both an honor and a calling. With my CACII certification from the state of Georgia, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside women in recovery, offering one-on-one sessions, facilitating group classes, and creating opportunities for healing through peer support services and recovery retreats. Each piece of the program is designed to support women holistically as they break free from addiction and rebuild their lives.

Substance abuse disorder is very common among survivors of sex-trafficking and domestic abuse. Addiction is both a means of control and a means of coping with trauma. From the very beginning, I’ve seen this new addiction recovery program begin to change lives, one step, one story, and one healing moment at a time. With a trauma-informed model that centers on individualized care and specialized substance abuse classes, at House of Cherith, we are helping women reclaim their futures from the grip of addiction.

I know that recovery is never one-size-fits-all. That’s why this program is built on the understanding that trauma and substance use are often deeply connected. I work closely with each woman to build trust, process past pain, and walk with her through personalized, practical steps toward sustainable recovery.

The impact is both personal and powerful. National research shows that for every dollar invested in addiction recovery, there is a $7 return. This speaks volumes about the broader value of healing, not only for individuals, but for communities through lower healthcare costs, increased productivity, and reduced crime.

In just a few months, I’ve witnessed women take brave, life-changing steps. Their progress is a testament to what’s possible when compassionate care meets evidence-based support in a safe, nurturing environment.

I’m excited about what’s ahead, and I’m truly grateful to have you with me on this journey.

Together, we are reclaiming lives, reuniting families, rekindling hope and walking in recovery, one step at a time.

Surprise Giveaways
Celebrating our residents through house and car giveaways!

This quarter, we celebrated incredible milestones in the lives of our House of Cherith residents and graduates. Eight courageous women received brand new cars—three from HOC and five through our amazing partners at City of Refuge.

We also handed over the keys to a new home to HOC graduate Shamila and her four children. After completing our Mommy & Me program and joining our campus staff, Shamila is now a proud homeowner. 🏡

Moments like these remind us that healing is possible, freedom is real, and transformation is happening—every single day.

Welcome Home Bundles
Help survivors feel seen, safe, and supported from the moment they arrive.

When a woman walks through the doors of House of Cherith, she’s stepping into the unknown—often with little more than the clothes on her back. Your gift creates a tangible expression of love and dignity by providing the essentials she needs to begin healing.

From fresh sheets and warm meals to counseling and childcare, each Welcome Home Bundle helps cover the cost of critical care during her first days, weeks, and months on the path to healing.

Give hope. Give healing. Give her a safe place to start again.

Story of Hope
Written testimony by a resident of  House of Cherith.

I came to House of Cherith broken, defeated, and addicted to drugs. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I came because I was homeless and running from a very abusive relationship.

When I showed up I was only looking for shelter. But I received so much more. During my stay, I received free healthcare and dental care. I was also able to receive counseling, classes, and an opportunity to rest and heal.

My experience felt too good to be true. The rooms were decorated so beautifully, and I didn’t have to share my room with anyone. I cried when I saw my room for the first time. It didn’t feel or look like your typical shelter. I felt safe and at home.

I stayed there a year and eight months and I accomplished goals and significant milestones. Some of my fondest memories are going to the retreat house to swim and unwind. The most memorable milestone was the trip we took to Wind River Ranch in Colorado. That was my first time boarding a plane and the first time I rode a horse.

While at House of Cherith, I participated and completed the 16-week culinary class, attained a forklift license, and became gainfully employed. The staff there advocated for me and helped me get a lawyer through the Georgia Justice Project, who is actively helping me to clear my name and expunge my record.

Since I graduated from House of Cherith, I stayed connected by receiving aftercare. I was chosen to receive the PEX grant which helped me tremendously with bills and the cost of living. I am now 2 years clean and sober. I also got close to God because it is a Christian-based program. I am happier and healthier than I’ve been in a long time.
